National SCORE Association

Founded October 5, 1964 in Washington, DC as part of the SBA (Small Business Administration) to provide hands-on management assistance and training to small or new potential businesses.

Today SCORE is still a resource partner with the SBA and has provided counseling to over five million clients through February 2005. There are over 10,500 counselors nationwide with 389 offices located across the country.

SCORE San Luis Obispo County

The San Luis Obispo county chapter was formed in 1984 and is headquartered in the Creekside Center, 4111 Broad Street in San Luis Obispo.  We are retired and professionally active executives who are providing advice to entrepreneurs that wish to start, fix or expand a business in San Luis Obispo County.  Our payback for the time, expertise and advice we provide is your success.  We want you to be successful!

The mission of SCORE is to provide professional guidance and information to small or new businesses in order to strengthen our local economy. This mission is carried out in the following manner:

COUNSELING SESSIONS - No Fee

Through a series of one hour counseling sessions with clients to review their plans and ideas and provide guidance regarding strategy, business plans, financing, marketing, etc.  To arrange for a counseling session, please call 547-0779 or e-mail us at info@sloscore.org.

WORKSHOPS - No Fee

SCORE currently sponsors a workshop (on the third Wednesday of the month) dedicated to starting a new business at the Creekside Center, 4111 Broad Street in San Luis Obispo from 9 AM to 12 noon.  To reserve your seat, please call 547-0779 or e-mail us at info@sloscore.org.

MENTORING - No Fee

SCORE visits existing businesses on site to better understand their issues and work with clients in formulating a plan to address these problem areas.

This book - in its sixth edition and available in English and Spanish - provides information vital to starting a business in SLO county.  It provides the processes and procedures necessary to begin and run a business and local contacts (government and private) that provide a smoother implementation of your ideas.

This workbook is available in printed form at all county libraries (reference and circulation) and on this website.  Personal copies can also be purchased via this website, from the chambers of commerce in the county and from a SCORE counselor.
